Ebooks
Seems like nearly everyone
is selling ebooks nowadays. Can you make money with Ebooks?
Possibly...however, there is a lot of competition out there and you will
have to have a very good ebook or some clever marketing angle in order to compete.
Also, many online marketers are giving away their ebooks as a value-added
promotion. The reason they do this is to get the ebooks in as many
hands as they can as a way of free advertising. Thus, they will have
their company name and contact info in the ebooks along with any other
upsell products they are trying to promote.
One ebook that I see all the time is the "Secrets of
the Big Dogs." This is one ebook that has become very successful
based on a clever marketing angle. The title
is a very strong
point to its success, as "Secrets of
the Big Dogs" is a very powerful
ad title that really gets your attention. Plus, the ebook gets a lot of
exposure because there are many affiliates out there promoting it. I don't
know the numbers on how many became affiliates....but I bet it is in the tens of
thousands. Just imagine if you had an ebook like this and
had tens of thousands of resellers out there promoting it!
So selling ebooks can be successful,
but unless you have something extremely good or some very good marketing
angle, it will be hard to be successful. Here are the advantages
and disadvantages of selling your own ebook.
Advantages:
Since you have no physical
product there are no printing or shipping costs. This saves a lot of time and money. Quick delivery: People today
want things right away and are happier when they can get them immediately. So when ordering an
ebook, they can get immediate access to the site where
they can download the ebook.
Disadvantages:
Less perceived value:
Many people have the perception that value is associated with the amount
of content they receive. If a person pays $200 - $400 for a
product and receives a 12- cassette tape course with a videotape and an
1,000-page manual, they are going to assume this has more true value than
some intangible ebook that they don't even get to hold in their hands.
Thus, it would be tough to convince someone to spend $100 - $400 dollars
on ebooks.
Also, I believe that most
people don't read ebooks the same way they do real books.
I know I don't. I prefer to read something I have in
my hands rather than trying to read it on the computer screen. It takes more of a conscious effort to read
ebooks.
Piracy: When
your ebooks are online, you are open to hackers getting access to your
download site or your email. Whereas, with a real book,
cassettes, or video, it would be unlikely to have people out there copying
all that content.
